Taiping Lake Garden

Once a tinmine, the Taiping Lake Garden is one of the oldest parks in the country. Set up in 1880 to beautify the former mining area, it is a scenic place with lots of flowers, trees and shrubs which in turn form a nice habitat for a variety of birds and insects.

Stretching over 64ha, the Taiping Lake Garden has a recreational park, Japanese garden, a zigzagging bridge that leads to a rotunda on the water, a pagoda bridge, rollerskating rink, lotus pool, paddleboat rides, and beautiful raintrees whose branches stretch across the driveway and dip into the lake’s waters.

The famous Taiping Zoo is close by, and on the way there you will find manmade rock formations built to look like dragons.

A disused gold course is nearby; the game was actually popular here once but the course was closed in the 1980s because the flying golf balls posed a public hazard.

To escape from the rush of city life, take a stroll or jog around the lake in this beautiful setting at any time of the day. There is a recreational path that has signage describing various exercises you can do.
