Pantai Beserah beach

The fisherfolk of Pantai Beserah, some 8km north of Kuantan on the way to Terengganu, employ an unusual method of transporting their catch from the seaside: water buffaloes! You would not normally expect to see these beasts of burden outside of the rice fields, but why not – they are water buffaloes after all.

The catch is taken to the processing areas where it is turned into the area’s most famous product: salted fish.

There is also a batik factory and many cottage industries, producing items from seashells as well as snacks like the popular keropok lekor.
